Joyce S. Crane, Artistic Director

Artistic Director and founder of Crane Performing Arts School.  Prior to opening CPAS, Joyce had an illustrious career in the Philadelphia dance community.  As a teen she was the assistant choreographer for many projects in all genres of dance, including choreographing and coaching members of Dean Martin’s Golddiggers for television and live performances. As a teacher, her students have realized many of their goals with her encouragement and assistance: college dance scholarships, Governor’s School for the Arts and have become regional and national competition winners. Students have traveled with Joyce to perform twice in Europe, Disney’s Epcot Center, New York City, on the cruise ship “Britanis” in Mexico, and at the Sunset Beach Resort in Jamaica.  Currently Crane alumnae are dancing and producing professional shows in NYC, Las Vegas, Reno, Biloxi and abroad. Joyce is most proud of the many scholarships and acceptances her students have received by audition to world renown dance programs.

 
Makenzie Crane - Competition Team Coordinator

A third generation dancer, Makenzie is proud to keep the tradition of a family of dancers alive into the 21st century. Makenzie trained at her mother's dance studio in West Chester, PA as well as North Carolina School of the Arts, Interlochen Arts Center in Michigan, Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, River North Dance Chicago and Broadway Dance Center in New York City, where she was on a full scholarship. Makenzie has danced for Tap Team II, ASH Contemporary Dance, and has performed in several corporate events throughout the Philadelphia area. Performance credits include DRA's "Remember Project" and Broadway Dance Center's Performance Outlets in New York. While living in NYC, Makenzie served as a sound technician and lighting designer for numerous performances, taught in the children’s program at Broadway Dance Center, and judged dance competitions throughout the U.S. Makenzie graduated West Chester University with a teaching degree in Health and Physical Education.

 

Cara Desert

Cara began to study dance at age three. Her training includes instruction from David Kloss, Cherie Noble, Nana Badrena, Eddy Toussaint, and Martha Chamberlain to name a few. She has danced and performed with Brandywine Ballet Company and Theatre for the past several years. She was accepted into Princeton Ballet and Washington Ballet, and attended Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s summer program. After graduation from High School, Cara pursued her career as an architect, and attended Temple University. Upon graduation, under the tutelage of Andre Ustinov and Elena Martinson, Cara performed Sugar Plum Fairy for Schuylkill Valley Regional Dance Company. She has also performed in Brandywine Ballet’s “Dracula”, and played the Evil Queen in Wayne Ballet Theater’s production of “Snow White”. She is excited about teaching at Crane’s while continuing performing with several regional dance companies next season.

 

Melissa Devlin

For Melissa Devlin, dancing is essential to life, providing personal balance and connection to the spiritual realm. Melissa has been classically trained in ballet, jazz and tap but her appreciation of people and the culture that they create have led her to the world of Hip Hop. She has trained with Masters such as the Electric Boogaloos, Crazy Legs and Bboy Ynot of Rock Steady Crew, Link of Mop Top Crew / Elite Force, AleKsa “LeX” Chmiel and Tori Closson. As a member of Philly’s own Flomotion Dance Company, Melissa performed in ‘Style Queens’ in Tokyo, Japan. Other performance credits include Rennie Harris’s’ Illadelph Legends’ show, ‘NBC Fit Fest’ and Zen One’s ‘The Highest Paid Monkey’. Melissa has also performed as part of Montazh Performing Arts Company at ‘Ladies of Hip Hop’, an all-female, hip hop arts and culture festival and subsequent documentary about women in Hip Hop which was featured on WHYY TV. In addition to performing, Melissa has been Choreographer/ Co-Coordinator of the Philadelphia 76ers Junior Dance Team and has had the pleasure of teaching at several Philadelphia area studios.

 
Kelly Murray

Kelly began her dance studies at the age of three, studying locally, with summer intensive training at Washington Ballet and Boston Ballet. While working towards her BA in Communication and Art History, Kelly took a leave of absence from the University of Delaware to dance full time with the Ballet Theatre of Maryland under the direction of Diana Cuatto. She then went on to finish her degree while dancing with ContempraDance Theatre, which led her to perform in the Philly Fringe Festival and tour throughout Poland as a guest performer at the Ladek Zdroj International Dance Festival. Upon graduation Kelly moved to Washington, DC where she was asked to perform with a select group of dancers under the direction of Miya Hisaka, Founder/Director of El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea de El Salvador. In 2008, Kelly returned to the Pennsylvania area and performed with ContempraDance Theatre and the International Ballet Theater. Kelly is the founder and Artistic Director of 180 Dance Company, a Philadelphia based contemporary ballet company. Kelly has led 180 Dance Company in performances in the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA), Philadelphia Dance Collective, Philly Fringe Festival, and in various public performances at local schools, churches, art centers, and other community events. Kelly received an award for her choreography through the Mordechai Anielewicz Creative Arts Competition.

 

Adrienne Santoleri

Adrienne started dancing at the age of three and continued her formal dance training with the  Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet and Koresh Dance Center located in Philadelphia.  She has had the pleasure of dancing in numerous live shows and videos with the following artists: Will Smith, Pink, Destiny's Child, City High, Rob Base, Ludacris, Q-Tip and Chubby Checker.  Adding to the list of professional credits, Adrienne performed with many dance companies and shows such as MTV Global Grove, MTV Rock N Jock, NBA Inside Stuff, KTU N.Y.C Jingle Ball, NBA Mexico City, and ESPN (Pro Dance).  While working with ESPN, Adrienne was given the opportunity to work and perform with choreographer Brian Friedman.  Her dance career has lead her to appear in print and modeling work, and has appeared in various commercials and magazines with Southwest Airlines, Polo, Curtain Call Costumes, Dance Spirit Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, and Philadelphia's Health and Fitness Magazine.  After recently ending her twelfth season as the captain and coach of the Philadelphia 76ers Dancers, Adrienne continues to teach dance team style as co-founder of "Arena Dance Pros" and "Arena Dance Pros Kids". 

 
Michael Susten

Michael Susten is a recent graduate of the University of the Arts, where he earned a BFA in Jazz Dance performance. Upon graduation he was awarded the Choreography Prize. Michael is currently the creator and director of the Xhale Dance Company, and has shown work in the past three Philly Fringe Festivals, the Choreographers Canvas (NY), The Koresh Artist Showcase, The Kimmel Center, and in a showcase hosted by the Barre Boys. Michael graduated from Philadelphia's High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) in 2005 where he was dance captain of the CAPA Dance Company, and was awarded Jazz Dancer and Choreographer of the Year at graduation. He has performed and choreographed at the Boscov's Thanksgiving Day Parade, including a Pre-Show Performance with American Idol's LaToya London. He was one of thirty dancers chosen to attend the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, where he was a Modern Major. Since 2006 Michael has been an employee of the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando Fl., where is continues to perform in their shows and parades.

 
Braham Logan Crane - (Guest Teacher)

Braham Logan Crane is an expert in the art of movement. He has a way of creating fresh and innovative work that encompasses intense emotion and pure passion. He puts it all together with his signature style blending ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and contemporary movement.

As a choreographer, Braham has set works on distinguished dancers from American Ballet Theater, Bolshoi Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet, as well as collaborating with recording artist and Broadway star, Angela Ai. Braham choreographed and performed at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary. He has set original versions of Altar Boyz and Cats at the Roxy Regional Theatre in Tennessee. Recent commissions include works for Bad Boys of Dance, starring and directed by Rasta Thomas and Houston Metropolitan Dance Company. As a teaching professional, Braham has served on the faculty of many renowned dance schools including Virginia School of the Arts, Koresh Dance Center, University of the Arts, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance and Steps on Broadway.

Included in Braham Logan Crane’s diverse concert and stage work is the critically acclaimed dance company, ASH Contemporary Dance. Braham served as founder, artistic director, as well as choreographer for company pieces. ASH Contemporary Dance has toured throughout the United States in addition to Canadian and European tours.

Braham Logan Crane has won prestigious awards and received unique honors for his work. Braham became the youngest choreographer to win the Gold Leo’s Award for excellence in jazz choreography at the Jazz Dance World Congress in Buffalo, NY. He was also awarded the silver medal at the Festival Des Arts De Saint-Sauveur International Choreography Competition in Quebec.

At age 26, Braham founded ASH Productions, LLC, and currently serves as the executive director. ASH Productions produces numerous dance events throughout the country, and is launching their inaugural tour in the fall of 2011, Artists Simply Human: The Workshop Experience. In this exciting venture, Braham is thrilled to be working with many talented artists including: Dee Caspary, TOKYO, Jason Samuels-Smith, Sascha Radetsky, Tovaris Wilson, Wes Veldink, Christopher Huggins, Melanie LaPatin and Desiree Robbins. ASH Productions will also be producing a very unique summer event to be held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas July, 2012 - theCOMPANY.
